Baffled about Belfast ?!?!
This is just another observation. Very bizarre. Try and comprehend this.
Ireland played in the 2007 World Cup and beat fellow minnows Pakistan en route to a Super Eight berth. Yeah, the same Ireland which boasts of the likes of Roy Keane, Robbie Keane and Damien Duff. Yeah, the same Ireland famous for its Dublin.
That actually reminds me of a very cheeky question. Remember as a kid, your teacher always asked you which was the richest country in the world? And you always thought it was either Switzerland for its chocolates or perhaps the USA for half the world migrates there to work in restaurants and as cheerleaders. Its actually Ireland and there is a very logical reason to it. Ireland is the richest country in the world for its capital is always Dublin !
Now shifting focus to the mystifying ways of the ICC. I was under the assumption that the recent cricket extravaganza was being played out to promote the game in Ireland and consolidate on their recent World Cup triumph. But then it struck me: Belfast??
Dude, thats the wrong country ! Belfast is the most notable town in Northern Ireland. (And for the purists, Northern Ireland boasts of the likes of David Healy, Maik Taylor and Aaron Hughes). And with my limited knowledge of British socio-economic relationships, I can very well tell that Belfast and Dublin do not share the most amicable relationship. Is Northern Ireland even a member of the ICC? If Ireland played the World Cup, what sense does it make to promote the game in a neighboring country which cares a tuppence for the Irish cricket team ?
The newspapers and the venerable Indian media are making merry too. We have reporters who calmly report from Belfast, Ireland? Just doesn’t make any sense. Have I got my geography horribly wrong (which I usually do) ? Or was it Northern Ireland who played the World Cup? Or is everybody plain stupid ?
