Arrey, today was a good day !!
When I started with this lovely thing called a blog, I never imagined that I would be posting so frequently. I intended to make a post a fortnight or there about but as things have turned out I have posted a whole lot more. * You know sometimes when I post these blogs I wonder if ever the first para of what I write makes any sense whatsoever. And more often than not the answer is an emphatic :NO!*
Today was our TechFest – Nirmaan. On the engineering circuit, it is one of the most recognized festivals in the city and attracts junta from all over the town. Loads of events are in store: robotics, biz events, programming, literary skills and quizzes, oratory events, GD’s, its like all the good of all worlds blended into one !
Needless to say, given my enthusiasm about such events right from my schooling days, I ended up in participating in my favorite events – the quizzes. Yeah, I know that attending quizzes isn’t really the ‘in’ thing to do when there is Ravi Iyer’s workshop going around next door and all the ladies in the college are suddenly addicted to the guitar, but then quizzes over guitars any day ! * Oh. I already see people hurling abuses at me. Did i hear voices to burn my house down ? Bachao *
The general quiz elims were quite good. Good workable questions. Guessed wildly. Such fun. Ended up scoring 10/30 which ensured that we made it to the on-stage final.
Next up was a Maths thing. I actually suck pretty bad in Maths. And so never expected anything out of the elims. And to my utter surprise we managed to score a healthy 17/35. But still missed out on the final 4 on basis of in-built tie-break questions and all. But 17 ! I was flabbergasted. It was like Mercury and Pluto coming close and giving each other a hug ! Me and Maths ! Haha !
The general finals was a four round affair where they tried to put it all – direct with no passes, take your pick, buzzers (which never worked out), rapid fire all into one. This is one constant grouse I have – you need not ’sensationalise’ a quiz to make it good, especially when it is just 4 rounds short. But anyways, the questions were really good, the hostess very clear and consistent and the scoring without any mistakes. * i love the way the scoring is done at nm…..the hottest girl in the class is always the scorer and she always has to mess up……and then the participants are more than eager to correct her…..and then there is chaos….more chaos…..it all adds to the fun*
We started very well. A couple of peters (peters are repeated questions which are quite a rage with the quiz-setters) and we were running. Leading till the end of the third round. Missed a lot of questions too. I missed a question on Shawshank Redemption for which I will have to face the wrath of Girish and junta for the rest of my gazillion lives. Missed two on tennis which has always been my bogey sport. Leading , with the rapid fire round to go, we were quite confident of screwing up. Rapid fire rounds are meant to screw up things. They make your tiny pea-sized brain work overtime and you have no time to react . *Hate it*
As usual, screwed up at the firing line and came runners-up. A very good day ! And to my surprise, the quiz hostess had been to the preliminary rounds of the ESPN school quiz , such a rarity ! Good day though and I made a blog post out of it . Will post some questions later if im not asleep…..

I can’t say the hostess was extremely knowledgeable or ” consistent” as you term it, but she was good enough. Maybe you were distracted by external influences [:D]
